Location – Monitored Care Unit
The Monitored Care Unit at Eagle Ridge Hospital requires a new triple channel pump to permit our medical clinicians to administer multiple intravenous medications and fluids to patients who are receiving more than one medication. Most often, a triple channel pump is used in intensive or monitored care units, in oncology applications (chemotherapy to treat cancers) and by anaesthesiologists during operations where multiple infusion lines are employed.
With an advanced range of safety features, backed by full training and support services, the triple channel infusion pump brings all the advantages of modern technology to multiple applications of medications and fluids. By controlling up to three different infusions within the same pump, the risk of medication error compared with the use of multiple pumps can be reduced.
These pumps permit the clinician to set the rate of infusion for three different medications or solutions permitting individual control of the set rate on each line. In fact, when the channels are preset with a drug profile, the unit will sound an alert to protect against human error if the wrong drug concentration is entered. The unit also monitors and records the volumes of medication administered in a given period of time and in total, and provide a permanent record of the medications and solutions administered.
