Hematology Coagulation Analyzer
Blood analysis for diagnosis
The hematology analyzer is a must-have piece of equipment required by every hospital laboratory. Nearly everyone who comes to the hospital with a complaint, or for a scheduled procedure, will have a sample of blood processed by this piece of equipment.
The analyzer can read red and white blood cell counts, hemoglobin and platelets. It is used in most routine screenings for infection and anemia. It is also used to diagnose possible disease, including leukemia. The lab receives over a hundred blood samples every day from all areas of the hospital. The information provided by blood analysis informs the medical decisions made by physicians in the operating room, ambulatory care and emergency.
The existing analyzer has a limit of approximately 100 tests per day. Eagle Ridge Hospital needs to run 120 tests per day to keep up with the growing demand within the hospital. The old analyzer is now two years past its life span and needs maintenance and repair regularly. Each time the machine it goes in for repairs the hospital loses 200 hours of testing time each year. This is time Eagle Ridge cannot afford to lose!
During maintenance, we use our back-up machine that can only test one sample at a time. The technician must stay with the machine while it tests, and can not walk away to perform other chores. At one minute per sample, and up to thirty samples at a time, the technologist loses 30 minutes which could have been used to support other tests.
A big benefit of a new analyzer is that it will allow the laboratory technologist to load tests and walk away to perform other jobs. The analyzer then automatically tests the sample and displays data on a monitor.
This piece of machinery is vital to Eagle Ridge medical staff and patients – that is why it is on our wish list this year.
