Exercise Treadmill
An exercise treadmill is critical in assessing cardiac fitness for post-open heart surgery, arrhythmia management and preventative care. By using a special treadmill, cardiology technicians can facilitate heart stress tests within the safe confines of the hospital.
How does a stress test work? The patient is hooked up to monitor and builds heart rate by walking on the treadmill. As the speed and incline of the treadmill gradually increase, the patient’s heart is forced to work harder. This stress test can uncover cardiac abnormalities that are not apparent when the patient is at rest. Testing provokes symptoms such as shortness of breath, dizziness and fatigue which can indicate blockages in the coronary arteries.
Did you know that everyone from Hope to Burnaby who needs a pacemaker will have this heart rhythm regulator inserted at Eagle Ridge Hospital? Last year Eagle Ridge did over 470 pacemaker installation surgeries!
The Cardiology Department at Eagle Ridge Hospital needs a new exercise treadmill. A new exercise treadmill will allow them to continue to test patients with heart related problems with confidence and ease.
