Why Give

CO2 Surgical Laser

Obstructive sleep apnea is a common disorder that causes people to stop breathing for brief periods of time while asleep.  The recurring interruption of breathing during sleep is caused by an obstruction usually in the upper airway by weak, excessive, or malformed pharyngeal tissues. It affects approximately 9% of men and 4% of women.

Patients suffering from this disorder are provided relief by our Ear, Nose and Throat surgeons at Eagle Ridge Hospital.

The disorder has been linked to an increased risk of drowsiness, which affects the ability to drive, work, and perform everyday tasks. It has also been connected to other serious conditions such as high blood pressure, heart attack, and stroke – not to mention the damage it can do to relationships!

Our ENT Surgeons badly need a CO2 surgical laser which has the latest technology.

The laser is used on the back of the throat to remove excessive or damaged tissue; and in the treatment of leaking blood vessels. The laser dehydrates cells and vaporizes tissue rather than cutting into the affected skin. Imagine that – a surgery that doesn’t require the surgeon to cut!  This allows for quicker surgery time and faster, better patient recovery.

Cost: $85,000
