Dr. Peter Blair

General Surgeon

Eagle Ridge Hospital

Dear Friend,

My name is Dr. Peter Blair and I have been a general surgeon at Eagle Ridge Hospital for the past 21 years.

During this time, I have seen this hospital change and grow. I have seen hundreds of patients come here for medical help and leave feeling healthier and happy. What matters most to me is the patient, and that is why I am asking for your help today.

I do all kinds of surgery from breast cancer to open abdominal surgery. When I am using an operating light, I need a variety of options that help me to see and work more efficiently. If I can see better, I can operate better and the chances of a better outcome are just that much higher.

At Eagle Ridge we have six operating rooms. Currently, five of them are outfitted with the newest operating lights. We need your help to purchase two more lights which will update that final OR. The original lights are 20 years old.  New ones would make such a difference. The latest technology has a long list of benefits the old lights just cannot offer. When I spend long hours in the OR, the older lights can become very hot. The new lights keep the room cool and comfortable to work in.

The new lights also have a special honeycomb shape which helps to eliminate head shadows when bending over a patient. Also, if a bulb or two burns out during a surgery – which has happened before – we barely notice it and can confidently continue our work.

The new lights offer a wide range of light levels which makes my OR the ideal space for any kind of surgery.  Sometimes I have to operate deep inside the body and I use a camera, a screen and surgical headlight to help me see where I need to go. In this case a dimly lit OR makes my screen brighter and allows the headlight to do its job.

I also appreciate a light that can be adjusted for a wide or narrow beam. This flexibility allows me, and my fellow surgeons to focus the light to suit the surgical needs of each individual patient.

To top it all off, they are energy efficient, lightweight and superbly easy to clean. They are a joy for both surgeons and OR nurses to have in the operating rooms.

With more than 40 surgical patients rotating through the OR’s each day, the surgeons at ERH need all six operating rooms to have top-quality operating lights. We hope you can help us accomplish that goal.

I love the people I work with because they give of themselves each day to keep this community healthy. All of the surgeons at Eagle Ridge are most grateful that the community supports the hospital so generously.

This hospital belongs to all of us. This hospital belongs to you – so, please give what you can. Every dollar counts. No matter what amount you choose, please know, we are grateful for your gift.

Sincerely,

Dr. Peter Blair
